A Swedish fika in the sun
Starting with coffee is never a bad idea. Head to Lilla Kafferosteriet, housed in a 17th-century building right in the city centre, or have a cup of locally roasted coffee among the gardens at Slottsträdgårdens Kafé, tucked away behind Malmö Castle. Sit outside for as long as you can. In Malmö, that might be a while yet.
See something new
Edgy Scandinavian design at Form/Design Center, contemporary art at Moderna Museet Malmö – or something completely different. Sherlocked serves up puzzles and Victorian mysteries, while Disgusting Food Museum has food from around the world that triggers considerably more emotions than just hunger.
Have a drink. Or two.
Head to Möllan – Malmö’s colourful, multicultural neighbourhood around Möllevångstorget – for Artisan, Sweden’s first vermouth bar. At Södertull in the city centre, you’ll find Bärstronomi, Hyllie Bryggeri’s taproom. Two good spots for an afternoon that spills over into evening.
Save some space for dinner
Malmö takes food seriously, without being too serious about it. Como and Margaux in the historic Börshuset, Byn Matbar at Entré, and Basta and Lola Maria at cobbled Lilla Torg are just a few of the city’s hot spots. Can’t agree? Head to Malmö Saluhall, the city’s food hall. Problem solved.
Make a night of it
After dark, Malmö means gigs, clubs, live venues, bars and plenty of other things you don’t necessarily need to plan in advance. See what’s on at Moriskan, Slagthuset, Malmö Opera or one of the city’s many other venues. Or do as the locals do: start somewhere and see where the night takes you.
And in between? Get outside.
Grab a rental bike and head down to Ribban, Malmö’s long city beach on the Öresund. Chill in one of the city’s many parks. Shop new and second-hand. Take a selfie in Västra Hamnen, the waterfront district. Turning Torso or the Öresund Bridge to Copenhagen as your backdrop. Find a spot in the sun and stay a little longer than you planned.
Autumn will come anyway.
But it comes last to Malmö.
