Here’s a taste of what’s happening around town this summer:
• Malmö Garden Show returns to Mölleplatsen and Slottsträdgården 29–31 May with garden markets, outdoor exhibitions, talks, food and family-friendly activities.
• Of course Malmö needed its own comedy festival. Malmö Standup Festival premieres 4–7 June, bringing some of Sweden’s top comedians, international guests and rising talents to stages across the city.
• Families can once again experience the hugely popular Swedish TV show Sommarlov live in Beijers Park. The programme is recorded in front of a free live audience from 9 June to 11 August, with guest artists including Smash Into Pieces, Ella Tiritiello, Scarlet and Lilla Al-Fadji.
• During the FIFA World Cup, 11 June–19 July, Malmö hosts giant outdoor screenings in Slottsparken, turning the park into a football hangout even during late-night matches.
• 12–18 June marks Malmö möts (“Malmö Meets”) — a city-wide democracy week mixing important social issues with humour, curiosity and conversation. Young voices meet experienced professionals, comedians meet professors, and workshops, debates and live talks take over venues across the city.
• Malmö Sommarscen rolls out a full summer programme of free culture from 13 June to 2 August: concerts, dance, theatre, film and live performances in parks and outdoor spaces all over Malmö. Very Malmö style.
• Every summer, Malmö Pride brings together thousands of visitors and participants around human rights, inclusion and the freedom to be whoever you are and love whoever you want. Malmö Pride takes place 1–4 July with Youth Pride events and the colourful Pride Parade ending in Folkets Park.
• Malmöfestivalen returns 7–14 August and is expected to attract around 1.4 million visitors over eight days. Scandinavia’s largest city festival features hundreds of free events covering music, food, culture and family activities.
• 8–16 August, Europe Smash Sweden brings the world’s table tennis elite back to Malmö after last year’s success. The tournament is part of the international Grand Smash tour — the highest level of professional table tennis — alongside host cities like Singapore, Beijing and Los Angeles.
• Throughout the summer, Malmö also offers a strong live music line-up featuring international names like Jack White, ZZ Top, Primal Scream and Tricky. Folkets Park hosts a Peps Persson tribute festival, the new Mad Heat festival for hip hop and afrobeat, plus Swedish favourites like The Soundtrack of Our Lives and Wilmer X. Meanwhile, Matverkstaden at Lokstallarna serves up everything from tribute rock nights to country festivals and Garden Concerts returns to Bjerreds Station, with big Swedish names like Titiyo, Danny Saucedo, Lisa Nilsson and Niklas Strömstedt taking the stage
… and a whole lot more.
