Malmö on a rainy day

Autumn sun and crisp air. Or raindrops that keep falling on your head? Do not despair! Malmö's range of activities is waterproof enough to resist a few showers. In other words, the forecast is brilliant for you to find something fun to do indoors.

In autumn, Malmö’s stages are in full swing. Until November 12, the Broadway musical Anastasia is playing at Malmö Opera, performed in Swedish with English surtitles. It’s a saga for the whole family, based on the animated film of the same name. In this production, the well-known story of the mystery of the missing daughter of Tsar Nicholas II, is transformed into a magnificent, imaginative adventure full of excitement, humour and love.

Close to the opera awaits another popular attraction, namely the shopping center Triangeln, which in turn represents the end – or is it the beginning? – of the looong pedestrian-only street that crosses Malmö’s city center, with its many trendy shops, eateries and busy street life.

Where the pedestrian stroll reaches the canal, is the now world-famous Disgusting Food Museum. This fall, the cool museum, with a focus on ”disgusting” food from all around the world, is also showing a temporary exhibition featuring dangerous food. Both the kind that is deadly or dangerous to eat if not cooked properly and the kind sold by greedy or careless companies and causing a lot of trouble. You don’t want to miss this!

Less than an hour away by bus, you find the Falsterbo Photo Art Museum; another fashionable destination. It’s all about a private, unique photo collection with hundreds of original photographs. Until November 27, the main exhibition Undressed for success? Nude, famous, oysters and champagne, shows pictures of celebrities like you’ve never seen them before, by some of the world’s best photographers! The FPAM also offers a shop and a nice restaurant – Bistro Perspektiv.

Pssst… Want to stay overnight in Malmö within walking distance from both stages and shopping? The Teaterhotellet is, as it sounds, located close to Malmö Opera and has since the 1960s been classic ground for theatergoers and others who want to stay at a centrally located and affordable hotel with a personal touch. And right next to shopping mall Triangeln stands the well-known Scandic Triangeln, also a well-liked landmark on Malmö’s hotel scene.
